The positions that may be generated by Petrobras will be individual advisors for each of its 11 advisors

Petrobras' board of directors presented an internal proposal to evaluate the hiring of individual advisors for each of its eleven directors, with estimated salaries between R$35 and R$90, according to senior sources at the state-owned company. These positions would be freely appointed, and the remuneration would be defined by the board itself, according to the CNN website.

In addition to the proposal to create commissioned positions, a demand was also made for Petrobras to pay for courses in the oil and gas area for board members. These requests were forwarded internally by appointees of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, namely the Secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, Pietro Sampaio Mendes, who also chairs the board of Petrobras, and the Secretary of Geology, Mining and Transformation Ministry Mineral, Vitor Saback.

Justification for the demands

According to interlocutors of the two nominees, Petrobras' proposal aims to provide specialized advice to deepen the analysis of the company's projects. As for the courses, the allies argue that they are necessary to assist in Petrobras' great initiative to promote the energy transition, demanding continuous improvement on the part of the directors.

Internal sources at Petrobras, however, reported surprise with the demands presented. Firstly, due to the costs involved, since the estimate is that each of the positions of advisors will have a salary between R$ 35 thousand and R$ 90 thousand. Second, because the eleven directors already have advisory bodies that help them in their decision-making, with six committees and a total of 27 people.

Analysis in progress

The requests are being analyzed by Petrobras, and the forecast is that at the next board meeting, in August, there will already be a response on the matter. It is worth mentioning that the council should not have difficulties in approving the measure, since six of its eleven members are linked to the government.

CNN contacted Petrobras in search of details about the proposals, such as the number of advisory positions to be created, the expected remuneration and whether there is already a decision by the company about the subject. The company was also questioned about the justification for directors to take courses in the area, funded by the state-owned company. However, Petrobras chose not to comment on the matter. The Ministry of Mines and Energy also did not comment on the subject.
