Next week, the president of Anatel and the Minister of Communications have a meeting scheduled with Apple, in order to promote access by Brazilian customers to the 5G signal
A meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday (the 2nd) between the president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Carlos Baigorri, the Minister of Communications, Fábio Faria, and the multinational Apple , in the city of Palo Alto (USA). At the meeting, Baigorri and Faria will ask Apple to speed up an update of the brand's cell phones, so that Brazilian customers can have access to the 'standalone' 5G signal, also called pure 5G, which arrived in Brazil at the beginning of this month, when was released in Brasilia.
The expectation is that Apple will carry out the necessary update by the end of September
As disclosed by the website Broadcast, last Wednesday (the 27th), the president of Anatel and the minister stated, in a press conference, that they will demand celerity on the part of Apple. It is expected that the necessary firmware update will be promoted by the company by the end of September, the deadline for operators to implement the 5G signal in all Brazilian capitals.
Among all 67 devices listed by Anatel as compatible with the 5G signal, none of them belongs to Apple. Thus, the motivation behind the pressure exerted by the agency and the government on carrying out an update by the multinational becomes evident.

Also on Wednesday, there was also confirmation of the endorsement for the connection of the 5G signal in the capitals João Pessoa (PB), Porto Alegre (RS) and Belo Horizonte (MG). Thus, the cities began to transmit 5G this Friday (the 29th), joining Brasília as part of the municipalities where the signal is already released.
During the press conference, the minister and the president of Anatel they also tried to explain about the procedures for charging the quality standard of operators that offer the 5G signal for the next few weeks. According to them, however, it is only from the end of September that companies will be effectively charged to promote the offer of the signal under the minimum conditions determined in the 5G auction.
Under this bias, Fábio Faria clarified that the city of Brasília, for example, began to have access to the 5G signal on July 6th, having until September 29th to complete all its obligations. Afterwards, from the 29th, Anatel carries out its measurement. Faria says that, in the conception of some individuals, everything would be working on the first day and Anatel would already need to act, which, as seen, does not occur.
About 5G signal
How networks work 5G occurs via radiofrequency, in the same way as previous generations. However, the differential of 5G in relation to older technologies is the spectrum covered, since, in the case of 5G, it is significantly larger. With this, it will be possible to achieve greater speed, with greater latency and greater coverage.
In this sense, Márcio Fabbris, vice-president of Marketing and Sales of operator Vivo, declares that, in general, the 5G signal provides direct benefits to consumers through an ultra-speed mobile network, thus opening space for companies to create immersive services and experiences, with more frequent and efficient use of virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies.
The executive concludes that, with the 5G infrastructure at its maximum power, a world of possibilities is opened for customers and for society as a whole.
In addition, in an interview with the Olhar Digital website, the superintendent and executive secretary of Gaispi at Anatel, Vinicius Caram, also highlighted that 5G does not only serve the common user, but the entire production chain and various areas of the economy, such as agribusiness, the logistics and automation sectors, among others.
