The project was based on a document proposed by Sinaval to boost the segment in the domestic market. Deputy Alexandre Lindenmeyer took the proposal for the creation of a Parliamentary Front for the Defense of the Naval Industry to the Presidency of the Chamber.

A new project to boost the Brazilian shipbuilding industry is underway at the Chamber. This is a proposal by Deputy Alexandre Lindenmeyer (PT/RS), for the creation of a Parliamentary Front for the Defense of the National Naval Industry. The idea had already been proposed by the National Union of the Shipbuilding and Offshore Industry (Sinaval), which supports the deputy's decision to carry out the suggestion to new projects and investments in the sector for the coming years.

Proposal for the creation of a Parliamentary Front focused on the Brazilian naval industry sector was based on a Sinaval document, which supports the project

Newcomer to the Chamber, deputy Alexandre Lindenmeyer (PT/RS) sent a proposal to the Presidency of the body for a project to create a Parliamentary Front to support and defend the sector of the Brazilian shipbuilding industry.

The deputy's goal is to boost the segment over the next few years, relying on the Union's purchasing power to increase the flow of orders in the domestic market, mainly with Petrobras.

The proposal presented to the House is based on a Sinaval document, proposed in 2022, to attract investment to the sector.

Alexandre is a former mayor of Rio Grande (RS), with great relevance in the Brazilian naval industry sector due to the presence of the ERG shipyard, from Ecovix, in the region.

Under the coordination of former minister Miriam Belchior, the deputy had already created a group in December 2022 to work in the infrastructure sector. Now, he is turning to incentives for the shipbuilding industry with the Parliamentary Front project.

In addition to Sinaval, Lindenmeyer's project in the Chamber has the support of the National Confederation of Metallurgists/CUT and the Single Federation of Petroleum Workers (FUP), among others.

This is a proposal that can strongly contribute to the strengthening of the sector over the coming years of the Lula Government, which has already reinforced its interest in investments in the shipbuilding industry.

Brazilian market lost more than 60 jobs due to the crisis in the naval sector, points out Sinaval. Project by the Parliamentary Front can contribute to heating up the branch

According to data from Sinaval, in December 2014 Brazil had reached the peak of employability in the shipbuilding sector, with a total of 82.472 jobs.

However, the domestic market has lost over 60 jobs since then, with just 21.447 jobs as of May 2022.

“Therefore, it is urgent to expand public and private investments in this important and strategic economic sector, which has the potential to generate hundreds of thousands of new indirect jobs, mainly in other industrial activities”, highlighted the agency.

Sinaval believes that investments in the naval industry sector should be at the heart of a (re)industrialization project in the country, in order to contribute to the future of the national market.

In addition to the Parliamentary Front proposal, deputy Lindenmeyer suggested the resumption of works and the beginning of others in the sector across the country. Only in this way, investments in the shipbuilding sector can generate strong results in Brazil.
