In the current Brazilian educational scenario, distance learning has gained prominence, offering flexibility and accessibility for both students and education professionals.

A State University of Montes Claros (Unimontes), through its Distance Education Center (CEAD), announced the opening of a simplified selection process for the role of virtual tutor.

This process aims to select professionals to act as scholarship holders within the scope of the Brazilian Open University System (UAB), coordinated by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes).

Those selected will receive a monthly grant of R$1.100,00, with a workload of 20 hours per week, carrying out their activities in a mixed manner: in person and remotely.

According to the notice, those selected will act as follows:

5.2. Workload

5.2.1 The working hours of the Tutor (Virtual) is de 20 hours a week, being:

  • 10 (ten) hours per week in person, to be fulfilled in the CEAD/Unimontes – Building 7 – Darcy Ribeiro Campus, Montes Claros/MG, according to the schedule defined by the UAB General Coordination and the CEAD/Unimontes Course Coordinators.
  • The remaining hours are spent on remote activities.

5.2.2 

  • In-person activities may also take place on Saturdays and Sundays, according to the course schedule, to participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, face-to-face exams, practical classes and other specific activities.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Virtual Tutor

The virtual tutor plays a crucial role in mediating the teaching-learning process, serving as a link between the teaching staff, the students and the UAB/CEAD/Unimontes structure. Their main responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate communication and interaction in the virtual learning environment, promoting a dynamic and collaborative space.
  • Provide pedagogical support to students, clarifying doubts and guiding them in the proposed activities.
  • Monitor students’ progress, identifying difficulties and proposing strategies to overcome them.
  • Collaborate with teachers in the preparation and implementation of teaching activities, ensuring the quality of the content offered.
  • Participate in meetings and ongoing training promoted by UAB/CEAD/Unimontes, aiming at the constant improvement of its pedagogical practices.

Selection process: stages and evaluation criteria

The selection process will be conducted in two simultaneous stages:

  1. Minimum Requirement Analysis: Of an eliminatory nature, this stage verifies whether the candidate meets the basic requirements established in the notice, as per Table 1 of subitem 3.1.
  2. Curriculum Analysis: Of a classificatory and eliminatory nature, this phase assesses the candidate's academic background and professional experience, as detailed in item 6 and Annex I of the notice.

It is essential that candidates present all supporting documentation correctly and completely, as any inconsistency may result in reclassification or elimination from the selection process.

Registration is free and will be open until February 17, 2025. Interested parties must register exclusively online, using the electronic address.

To apply for virtual tutor positions, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Academic education: Hold a higher education degree in the field of activity or in related areas.
  • Professional Experience: Prove at least one year of experience in higher education or in activities related to distance education.
  • Time Availability: Have 20 hours available per week to dedicate to tutoring activities, with the distribution of these hours being defined according to the needs of the course.
  • Technological Expertise: Demonstrate proficiency in the use of digital teaching tools and platforms, as well as skills in information and communication technologies applied to education.

In addition to these requirements, it is desirable that the candidate has communication skills, proactivity, organizational skills and commitment to distance education.
