In the execution of the works, nature is extracted in civil construction, as several natural resources are used.
In the execution of works extraction takes place of nature in civil construction, as several natural resources are used, such as: electricity, water, exploration of other natural resources. However, with the growth in the number of constructions in Brazil, the adoption of sustainable processes to mitigate these impacts on nature has become essential.
On average, in Brazil, 800 kilos of waste are generated in civil construction per inhabitant. In addition to all this extraction of resources, civil construction generates impacts with carbon emissions. According to International Building Council (CIB), the sector accounts for 40% of energy consumption and 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
What can civil construction learn from nature?
Exploitation of nature in civil construction may be less if some measures are taken, such as choosing sustainable materials, as these generate less impact on nature. ”Choose sustainable materials, such as release agents, which can be composed of animal, vegetable, mineral based oils as alternatives to not harm nature”, says Fabio Camargo, director of Camargo Química.
- Hamad Port, a monumental work that revolutionized Logistics, Engineering and Maritime Trade in the Middle East
- R$ 310 million, 56 thousand residents and the construction of a new bridge: Joinville plans a road connection that could change the city
- No more asphalt! Federal highway abandons traditional paving and adopts concrete, which lasts twice as long as the old asphalt
- Duplication of the 'death' highway (BR) will cost R$1,75 BILLION, reduce accidents, damage the economy and generate more than 600 jobs
So that care for nature in civil construction is permanent, adopting processes that create this identity in the execution processes of the works is essential that this extends to all stages of the work. “Adopt a culture of reuse of materials, invest in intelligent waste management processes”, emphasized Fabio.
As in some stages of the works the use of electric energy can be dispensed with, avoiding the unnecessary use of the energy service, turning off equipment that is not being used will mitigate the impacts on nature in civil construction, as it will contribute to nature and even reduce the electricity service costs. “Avoid excessive consumption of energy, water and other natural resources. Adopt consumption reduction policies. If possible, use a water reuse system”, said.
As for the materials that are discarded during the works, giving them the correct direction, for example, will make other companies use this waste as raw material for other products, as is the case of recycling companies. “Pay attention to the disposal of waste generated in construction. Try to direct demolition and construction waste to the correct disposal site'', highlighted Fabio Camargo.
