Australia's new giant railway will be 90 km long and will connect several points across the country

Melbourne, Australia's second largest metropolis, is undergoing a significant transformation in its public transport system. With a colossal investment of US$ 125 billion dollars, a mega railway is being built that promises to revolutionize mobility in the city.

The new infrastructure in Australia that received billion-dollar investments, called Subúrbio Raillop SRL, will have 90 km of extension, connecting Sambary to Cramboard and skirting the Melbourne suburbs. Composed of three main subprojects – SRL east, RSL north and RS west – as well as additional projects such as the metro tunnel, airport train and removal of level crossings, investment in the mega railway aims to overcome the challenges of a continental country.

The motivation for investing in a railway in Australia

The need for investment in this ambitious project dates back to the 1970s, when Melbourne's public transport was in critical condition. O last investment in railways had been made 50 years ago, and the old electrical lines laid in 1910 were still in operation. The old model no longer met modern demand, with people living and working in different parts of the city.

With scarce investments in railways and obsolete models, the city realized the urgency of transformation. The decentralization of trade and changes in living standards demanded a infrastructure more efficient. Subúrbio Raillop SRL is the answer to these challenges, promising a most efficient and connected system in Australia.

The Future Benefits of Australia's New Railway

Investment in Raillop SRL Suburb will not only expand Australia's transport network, but also reduce bottlenecks on lines passing through the city centre. This means that users will be able to rely on more frequent trains and shorter intervals, providing a more efficient travel experience.

The project is in full swing, with the first stage of the megaproject, the metro tunnel, scheduled to be completed in 2024, and the last stage of the SRL scheduled for 2050. The engineering used was careful in maintaining the tunnel route, minimizing impacts on city streets.

With the implementation of this major railway project, passengers will experience faster and more convenient boarding, being able to board immediately after arriving at the station, with reduced intervals, thanks to the presence of three additional trains running. This efficiency is similar to transport systems in cities like London. The engineering adopted demonstrates skill in choosing to maintain the tunnel route, minimizing impacts on Australia's urban roads.
