Yesterday (26/09), the Government of Pernambuco detailed the engineering for the construction of a Bulk Solid Mineral Terminal at the Port of Suape. The terminal work is expected to start in 2025 and promises to generate more than 3 jobs, both direct and indirect..

R$ 1,5 billion will be invested in the construction of the terminal, which is estimated to handle 13,5 million tons of iron ore annually.

The Government of Pernambuco also informed that the terminal will have the capacity to receive and ship 50 thousand tons of ore per day and a maximum volume of 780 thousand tons for storage in the yard. The operation is expected to collect R$ 617,2 million in port fees and a total of R$ 184,5 million for leasing the area during the term of the contract, which is 30 years.

In addition to the terminal, Bemisa Brasil Mineral Operation – which explores in the municipality of Curral Novo, where there is a deposit with 800 million tons of iron, the largest mineral reserve in Piauí and one of the largest in the country, announced that it will invest a total of R$ 10 billion in a package of actions that provides for the construction of a railroad with an investment of R$ 5,7 billion, going from Curral Novo to the Suape Complex, and R$ 2,8 billion for adapting a mine for mineral exploration .

“Pernambuco was a state that always received us very well, and Governor Paulo Câmara was essential for that. We have been discussing this possibility for some years now, which today culminated in the signing of the lease agreement”, said Augusto Lopes, CEO of Bemisa.

Enabling Transnordestina will promote the Port of Suape

For the CEO of the Port of Suape, Roberto Gusmão, the installation of the mineral terminal in Suape is an important milestone for the economy of the STATUS.

“We are the main port in the Northeast and a hub for cargo, currently distributed by road and cabotage. With the railway network, the port will be able to move from soybeans from Matopiba, in the region between the states of Tocantins, Bahia, Piauí and Maranhão, to fruits from São Francisco and gypsum from the Sertão do Araripe, in addition to internalizing cargo such as fuel, cooking gas, containerized cargo, vehicles, among other goods, consolidating its integration into the region's logistics network,” he said.
