The investment made by Raízen in the plant is an important step for the sustainable fuel sector
The leading company in the energy and biotechnology sector, Raízen, is planning to invest a significant R$ 1,3 billion to modernize its plant located in Caarapó, in Mato Grosso do Sul. The main objective of this investment is to enable the production of second generation ethanol (E2G), an important innovation for the sector, according to the State Mail website.
The news about Raízen's investment in the modernization of the Caarapó plant was announced during MS Day, a business event that took place in São Paulo (SP) on August 1st. The event brought together the company's board of directors, the governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, Eduardo Riedel, and the secretary of the Secretariat for the Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc), Jaime Verruck.
Modernizing the plant is a strategic step for Raízen to enter the production of second-generation ethanol, a technology that has the potential to increase the efficiency and sustainability of biofuel production. That type of ethanol it is obtained from non-food raw materials, such as agricultural residues and cellulose, which helps to reduce the environmental impact of production.

Expansion and acquisitions in Mato Grosso do Sul
In addition to this significant investment, Raízen also acquired three Biosev plants in Mato Grosso do Sul during 2021. These plants are located in Rio Brilhante, Maracaju and Caarapó, further strengthening the company's presence in the state.
Currently, Raízen already has around 149 hectares of sugarcane planted in Mato Grosso do Sul. The production of these crops includes 508 tons of sugar and 398 liters of first-generation ethanol each harvest. With the investment in the modernization of the Caarapó plant and the entry into the production of second-generation ethanol, the company is strategically positioning itself for the future of the biofuel sector.
