The Chinese automaker will be the first in the country to produce only electrified vehicles

Unlike most automakers that set up in Brazil, which start their operations by importing vehicles and only later install production units in the country, Great Wall Motors (GWM) decided to place its trust in the Brazilian market, first guaranteeing its factory, with the purchase of Mercedes-Benz facilities in the city of Iracemápolis (SP) in 2021.

the assembler The company carried out the necessary renovations at the factory and, more than a year later, started importing electrified cars with the brand's first car: the Haval H6 GT plug-in hybrid. The model is a sports utility vehicle (SUV), plug-in hybrid (charged at the outlet), with unprecedented and exclusive equipment in the Brazilian market for this car segment.

Experts estimate that the Haval H6 GT should be sold for around R$ 300 in Brazil

Although the price of the model will only be disclosed in March, specialists in the automobile market estimate that the Haval H6 GT should be sold for around R$ 300 thousand. GWM production in Brazil, not necessarily of this model, will only start in mid-2024. In this way, the Chinese automaker will be the first factory in Brazil to produce only electrified vehicles.

According to the CEO of GWM Brazil and Latin America, James Yang, the objective of China's largest private automotive group is to emphasize that it “really wants to put down roots in Brazil” and gain the confidence of the country's market. To complete, the executive said that the automaker has been studying the Brazilian market for ten years.

Does GWM produce electric cars or electrified cars?

GWM should start production at the Iracemápolis plant in the first half of next year, probably with a plug-in hybrid pickup truck. As soon as the H6 SUV also enters the production line, it will have a flex-fuel engine instead of just gasoline, as in the imported model.

While hybrid models are considered electrified only, purely electric cars (BEV) are also in the long-term projects of the Chinese group, as well as battery production. “I don't know if Brazil will need trams so quickly”, justifies Oswaldo Ramos, the company's commercial director.
