The new terminal at the Port of Itaguaí will be installed in an area of 312.514m² and Docas do Rio announced that the venture will receive investments of around R$ 3 billion during the entire construction phase. With this, it will be possible to increase the iron ore flow capacity through the port by around 30 million tons per year.

Thus ensuring much more productivity in operations. In this way, the flow of production in the region will become even faster and more efficient, which will bring benefits both to the port and to the mining companies in the state.

In addition, Docas do Rio commented that, during the last days of May 11th and 12th of this year, there was a visit made by the technical team of the Ministry of Infrastructure (MInfra) and the Planning and Logistics Company (EPL), with the participation managers of the region's port sector. The visit was related to EPL's studies regarding the future lease called ITG-02, known as the 'middle area', scheduled for completion in the 1st half of the year, to verify the storage capacity and production flow in the complex.

Construction of a new ore disposal terminal at the Port of Itaguaí will be essential to bring a new alternative for cargo transport in the region

Docas do Rio highlighted the importance of the new venture at the Port of Itaguaí to bring new projections to the complex over the coming years. This is because, with the construction of the new ore terminal, it will be possible to streamline the flow chain for this production in the state of Rio de Janeiro and offer a much more efficient structure for the region. In addition, the port will receive new eyes for the installation of future new ventures aimed at the mineral sector.

Furthermore, the general coordinator of Modeling of Port Leases, Alessandro Marques, pointed out that “Brazil is the second largest producer of iron ore in the world. Considering the importance of iron ore exports for Brazilian foreign trade, which should continue to perform well in the coming decades, and considering the access infrastructure, both rail and waterway, and the availability of the Port of Itaguaí area, the ITG-02 is of great relevance for the entire country”.

Finally, he gave some information about the undertaking's deadlines and said that the plans of the National Secretariat of Ports and Waterway Transport consist of launching the Bid Notice at the end of this year, with the auction taking place in the 1st quarter of 2023, to achieve the start of activities in the new terminal in the year 2028.
