To improve the sector of charging stations for electric cars in the national territory, Tupinambá entered into a partnership with Carrefour to install charging points in 40 supermarket parking lots

Tupinambá, one of the leading companies in charging stations for electric cars in Brazil, has entered into a partnership with Carrefour for the installation of 40 charging stations in the supermarket chain's parking lots by the end of next year. The first five are already fully operational in São Paulo, more precisely at Jardim Pamplona Shopping, at Butantã Shopping, at the Tatuapé and Brooklin hypermarkets and at the Carrefour Villa Lobos unit.

Charging stations for electric cars have 22 kW chargers

Carrefour charging stations have 22kw semi-fast chargers and a 55-inch screen for advertising. It is the advertisers who will pay for the operation of the electric cars, initially free of charge for customers of Carrefour supermarkets.

Currently in Brazil there are around 65 electric and hybrid cars circulating, with half of the recharges done in private stations and in the residential environment. In addition to the scarcity of incentives and the higher cost of trams, the absence of public charging stations, such as those at the supermarket, is a major obstacle to the evolution of the market.

The United States already has 100 charging points for electric cars spread around, while Brazil still seems to be in an almost experimental phase, with charging still offered on a sponsored basis, usually at no cost to the driver.

tupinambá spear app to identify recharging stations

As one of the main companies in this area in Brazil, with approximately 100 units, Tupinambá has identified a total of 750 public points in the country from various manufacturers.

This is the number of recharging stations that are pointed out in a app aimed at electric car drivers, which was launched by the company itself and is included in some models of electric vehicles. The application helps drivers find points across Brazil, make payments and also book a time slot when the service is available, which occurs in at least 10% of the points. One of the biggest obstacles to installing charging points for electric cars is the business model.

In this current scenario where recharge for electric models is still offered, especially free of charge, advertisements have still been a great incentive.

Carrefour and Tupinambá comment on the new partnership

In the deal with the Carrefour supermarket, the company will offer the space for free and Tupinambá will provide its charging equipment and the total energy cost. Companies also share revenues from advertisements on the outdoor digital.

According to the Commercial Manager of Carrefour Property, Patrícia Lima, the partnership seeks to offer a convenience for customers to be able to refuel their electric cars while shopping at the supermarket. According to Davi Bertonello, CEO and founder of Tupinambá, Brazil still does not have legislation or standardization of charging methods.

Some malls that offer charging stations charge for usage time. However, each car model takes a specific time to recharge, and unfortunately this ends up distorting the final value.
