Supporting sustainability, job creation and income for the Minas Gerais population, EMGD intends to deliver its first photovoltaic solar power plants by November of this year and others by the first quarter of 2022

The Minas Gerais Distributed Generation Company (EMGD) announced that it intends to deliver its first photovoltaic solar energy plants, which are foreseen in the memorandum signed between the Government of Minas Gerais and the company. At the end of 2020, the state government, through Governor Romeu Zema, signed a protocol of intentions that provided for an investment of BRL 400 million by EMGD in the implementation of 30 plants over the next four years.

The agreement provides for a subsidy of almost half a billion reais and also the delivery of solar photovoltaic power plants in 17 municipalities in the northern region of MG, a more humble part of the federation.

EMGD's investments will benefit, until November of this year, the cities of Mirabela, Coração de Jesus and Jequitinhonha, with more than 200 direct jobs, generating jobs and income for the population. By the end of next month, employees will be hired to build another two solar photovoltaic power plants in the cities of Minas Novas and Manga, which are expected to be completed in early 2022.

Words from EMGD about solar power plants in MG

According to EMGD's director of operations, André Mendonça, all stages of development and execution of the installations have already been contracted. He claims that the network works needed to connect the photovoltaic solar power plants have already started and, if everything goes as planned, they will be operating later this year.

The construction works promise to boost the local economy through direct and indirect services, for example, in the food and lodging sectors. André states that the company invested around BRL 65 million to apply the most up-to-date technology. The photovoltaic plants will have the system Tracker, which moves the plates according to the position of the sun.

Solar power plants, which have bifacial modules, will be able to increase energy generation by up to 8%. The plants will have an average capacity of 3,2 MWp of power and will be able to generate energy for 2.700 homes with an average consumption of 200 kWh/month. For this, 30 photovoltaic panels were distributed to the five units.

MG gains prominence in the solar energy market

Minas Gerais is currently responsible for almost 20% of solar energy generation throughout Brazil. It is the leader in the ranking released by Aneel, with an installed capacity of 862,9 MW.

This value is greater than the sum of the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, which are in second and eighth place, respectively. This force comes from the northern region of MG, which concentrates a large number of total photovoltaic plants in Brazil and as shown by EMGD's actions.
