The Eldorado Brasil Celulose group won the STS14 terminal with a bid of R$ 250 million. The STS14A terminal was purchased by the Bracell SP Celulosa Ltda group for R$ R$ 255 million. The companies that won the auction for the pulp terminals at the Port of Santos offered the highest concession value and gained the right to manage the areas for 25 years.

The auctions were held through the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) and mark the resumption of the government's concessions program since the health crisis arising from the new coronavirus began.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, celebrated the success of the auction. “We are taking firm steps to transform the port sector and improve navigation in Brazil. We are a country that is destined to grow. The change is not made by the government. It is made by those who move the machine and by those who want to transform the country. We are going to be big,” he stated.

The auctions consolidate a new logic of optimizing the use of areas in the Port of Santos. In this way, the handling of cargo will take place in a more sectorized and effective way, according to the new Zoning and Development Plan (PDZ) of the port. With the next railroad accesses to be built in Santos, which will allow for integration with the Rumo Malha Paulista and Ferrovia Norte-Sul lines, the transportation of pulp, as well as other cargo, will be based on multimodality, one of the great premises of the transport sector.

The terminals of the Port of Santos

Together, the terminals will have expected investments of around R$420 million, including road and rail accesses, and will yield R$110,9 million for the Santos Port Authority (SPA), port authority that manages the port, throughout the concession period. The two terminals will generate more than 7,6 jobs, including direct and indirect jobs and income effect.

The STS14 terminal at the Port of Santos, which has an area of 44,5 square meters, will be served by two berths located at the public pier in Macuco, with a total length of around 67 meters. Eldorado Brasil Celulose will make investments such as construction of a new warehouse and acquisition of overhead cranes, to facilitate the rail unloading of a composition of 88 wagons with 8,5 tons each in a maximum of XNUMX hours, for example.

Bracell SP Celulosa Ltda, winner of the STS14A, with an area of 45,1 thousand square meters, in addition to building a new warehouse and making investments that allow the same rail unloading of the other terminal in the Port of Santos, will also have to pay for equipment that shipment, from the warehouse to the wharf of at least 25 thousand tons per day.

Brazil is one of the largest pulp producers in the world, which is the product with the highest annual growth rate in the Port of Santos. After the investments in the terminals, the handling of this type of cargo should jump to five million tons per year.
