CEAR/UFPB entered into a partnership with Huawei and the Rio Alto Group for the installation of a solar energy energy efficiency laboratory. The project also includes the implementation of a new solar plant in the region.

The Chinese Huawei, the Rio Alto Group and the Center for Alternative and Renewable Energies of the Federal University of Paraíba (CEAR/UFPB) signed a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of a laboratory aimed at studies on maximizing solar energy generation. For this, a new solar power plant will begin to be built at UFPB as a result of the union between public and private initiative.

Renewable Innovation Day – Huawei and UFPB

The signing of the memorandum between Huawei, Grupo Rio Alto and UFPB took place during the Renewable Innovation Day, last week. The event also celebrated its 10 years of CEAR/UFPB activities.

The state has one of the highest levels of solar radiation in the country, currently having eight parks already in operation, totaling an installed capacity of 138,20 MW. The segment is considered a clean model for generating energy, due to the low production of polluting gases.

During the signing with UFPB and the Rio Alto Group, the vice president of Huawei Digital Power, Mason Qing, recalled the success story that the company has had in Brazil for 23 years and reinforced that, currently, solar energy plays an important role at Huawei being one of the pillars of the company in the country and in the world. Ma Jie, vice president of Human Resources at Huawei in the country, discussed initiatives for training new talent, such as programs ICT Academy, open class, Seeds for The Future e ICT Competition.

CEAR/UFPB comments on Huawei's free courses

In this same sense, the director of CEAR/UFPB, Euler Macêdo, also recognized how much educational initiatives have transformed society, with more than 240 people already trained by Huawei courses. According to the director, the intention was to obtain 40 international certifications and at the end of the ICT Academy project, 86 were achieved. Euler says that being able to double this goal made everyone happy.

In addition, his student Lucas Gudes was one of the finalists of the international Seeds for the Future program. According to Edmond Farhat, from the Rio Alto Group, everyone benefits from this partnership, especially the students. Farhat says that teenagers entering college at 18 or 19 can take what they learn and know and take it to the private sector.

The partnership with academia is of paramount importance, not only for the university but also for the country. “It's no use being trapped inside the University wall and not taking this to society”, highlighted Euler Macêdo.

Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company (Embrapii)

During the event, the Term of Cooperation was also signed that accredits Cear/UFPB as an Embrapii unit, according to Rector Valdiney Gouveia, the university's intention is to accredit new Embrapii units.

Carlos Eduardo Pereira, director of operations at Embrapii, recognized the work created by the center with applied research in partnership with companies in the private sector.
