According to Francisco Vital, commercial director of Usina Coruripe, in addition to saving transport costs, the project for the only road and rail terminal in Minas Gerais connected to North-South, the investment also brings environmental benefits due to the unloading of highways in the region. Of the two tons planned, at least 75% are transported by truck to the coast of São Paulo.

Vital says that “This will be a very high turnover terminal, with a very high loading capacity to make the asset – train and wagons – very well used. It will bring development to the entire region because, in addition to transporting our sugar, it will also transport third-party sugar produced in Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Goiás (within a radius of up to 500 kilometers). Before, a small part of this production was shipped through the Fernandópolis (SP) terminal, but Iturama, in addition to being much closer, has greater capacity. It will be able to make up to 6 million tons soon”.

The goal is for the terminal to start operating in March 2021, but the manager is betting that the first shipment will leave Minas Gerais in January. The new unit is located at KM 15 of the BR-497 highway and will have high receiving and loading speeds, and is equipped with a railway pear – a circular area for train maneuvers – which will streamline operations.

The project has an estimated total area of 20 hectares and will be equipped with two dumpers, a warehouse with a static capacity of 40.000 tons and a boxcar loading bin, which can load 1.500 tons of trucks per hour.
