Foxconn, the maker of the iPhone, plans to develop a popular electric car by next year. The vehicle called Project X will be supported by the MiH consortium platform.
The Taiwanese company, Foxconn, well known for being the main manufacturer of the iPhone, continues to invest in its entry into the electric car market, and recently presented a solution for the economic model sector, the Project X, which may be the first popular electric car on the market. The project was presented at the MiH Demo Day event, by the MiH consortium (Mobility in Harmony), led by the company, but which also includes Microsoft, Lordstwon, Tata, and Tomtom.
Project X is part of the BYOV electric car ecosystem
The purpose of the consortium, which has more than 2,5 companies, is to develop an ecosystem of electric vehicles with open standards, and the popular electric vehicle from the iPhone maker is the planned solution for sector A, that of economic cars.
It is noteworthy that the project for the development of a popular electric car is still in its initial steps. Now the MiH consortium is looking for partners to contribute to the development of the platform, that is, to invest in the project and share their technologies.
O Project X is part of the electric car ecosystem Build Your Own Vehicle (BYOV). The use of a modular design can reduce the final cost of the popular electric car, making it even more affordable. With this new platform, the iPhone manufacturer plans to be able to develop a compact electric vehicle for up to three passengers at a really popular price.
Perhaps the vehicle is not so cheap when it arrives on the market, however, the proposal is to launch a more affordable model than equivalent vehicles from rival companies. The great impasse that must be overcome in the creation of the Foxconn is the value of your batteries. The tendency is for this vehicle to be very light, so it should have smaller batteries, while maintaining good autonomy.
Other electric models presented during the event
It is important to note that the popular electric car from the iPhone maker with the MiH's Project X platform should only be presented until the end of next year, so it will still have to wait a long time until its arrival.
In addition to the Foxconn electric vehicle, the event featured several other innovations from the MIH consortium. There are already other electric cars developed by the iPhone manufacturer created on the MiH open platform, such as the sporty Model E, the Model T bus, Model B and the Model V pickup, in addition to the Luxgen n7 SUV, which was previously called Model C.
With the modular design and standardized interfaces, it is possible to create products with lower cost and less time. The consortium claims this could spawn new business models for car-sharing companies and mobility service providers. The company cites opportunities for logistics services and fleet operators, as well as new brands of eletric cars.
Nissan launches popular new electric car
Nissan has decided to expand its line of electric cars with the arrival of the Sakura, a zero-emissions urban electric vehicle that could become famous in its launch market, in Japan, because its estimated price is BRL 67 and it has an impressive set of equipment.
Regarding performance, the popular electric car has an engine that can reach 63 horsepower and 19,9 kgfm of torque, which can offer greater agility in urban traffic, with interesting sprints. The vehicle weighs around 1 kg and can reach a top speed of 120 km/h.
