The partnership between MDC and Solví Essencis Ambiental is focused on the enormous demand of industrial consumers for renewable energy and the decarbonization goals of the economy of the private sector and governments around the world.
Investment in SP could produce 60 m³ of biomethane per day and from 2023 onwards, it could reach a capacity of 100 m³ per day. The MDC and Solví Essencis Ambiental offer will be available to consumers who are connected to the SP gas pipelines, especially to large customers looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

The production of biomethane avoids the emission of methane into the atmosphere, a polluting gas that is 25 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. In addition, the investment by MDC and Solví Essencis Ambiental also introduces the new regulatory scenario, the Gas Law and the Basic Sanitation Framework, which can leverage biomethane.

This month, the Wheaton company, one of the largest manufacturers of glass packaging has entered into a partnership with ZEG to replace natural gas with biomethane in its operations.
Currently, the company operates in the activities of four continuous furnaces with the capacity to produce 1 billion glass bottles per year, which is equivalent to 370 tons of glass per day. According to Wheaton's commercial director, Renato Massara, 10% of the natural gas, which is used to produce glass in SP, will be replaced by biomethane, with the support of ZEG.
This partnership will make Wheaton the first industry in the sector to use this renewable source in the world. Also according to Massara, despite the packaging made of glass being 100% renewable, natural gas is still used. Therefore, with the use of biomethane to replace old gas, glass becomes even more sustainable for the environment.
