More than eight thousand jobs will be generated from the A-6 New Energy Auction

More than eight thousand direct jobs will be generated during the construction phase of 53 projects from the A-6 New Energy Auction

The Minister of Mines and Energy Bento Albuquerque, signed in the first 45 days of government all the construction grants for 53 projects from the A-6 New Energy Auction, which was held in August 2018. The projects add up to R$ 6,8 billion in investments and 1.572.356 kW of final power. During the construction phase of the plants, more than eight thousand direct jobs will be generated.

Contracts ranging from 20 to 30 years will generate savings for consumers of up to R$ 20,8 billion over their duration. For hydraulic generation projects, the contract is for 30 years. For wind, 20 years and for thermoelectric, 25 years.

The nine states that will be contemplated with the undertakings are: Bahia (17 plants), Goiás (one plant), Maranhã (one plant), Minas Gerais (two plants), Mato Grosso (one plant), Paraná (two plants), Rio Grande do Norte (27 plants), Santa Catarina (one plant) and São Paulo (one plant). The deadline for entering commercial operation of the plants, that is, the start of supply, is in January 2024.

Of the 53 undertakings awarded, 44 correspond to the generation of wind energy, two to thermal generation – one using natural gas and the other to biomass – and seven generating hydraulic energy – three of which are Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (PCH) and four Hydroelectric Power Generation Plants ( CGH).

Nuclear industry in Brazil

In his speech by Bento Albuquerque of the MME, at the Naval War College, in Rio de Janeiro, last Thursday, February 14, during the closing of the international workshop in the area of ​​safeguards, nuclear safety, physical protection and emergency response nuclear or radiological; he said that “nuclear energy, associated with the mastery of strategic technologies, is an important source of value for the country's progress and prosperity”. He detailed the procedures that were taken in recent months, aimed at implementing an agenda aimed at strengthening the nuclear industry sector in Brazil, "consistent with the growing social and economic demands".

According to the minister, actions are planned to expand industrial capacity for the production of nuclear fuel and complete the construction and installation of the third nuclear power plant, Angra 3.

“The MME will continue the long-term peaceful paths outlined for the Brazilian nuclear program, in order to provide firm, safe and strategic energy for the country's development,” said Minister of Mines and Energy Bento Albuquerque.
