Bajaj, one of the largest motorcycle producers in India, is in the process of expanding and claims that Brazil is included in its plans

In India, Bajaj is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers. In the Brazilian market, there was almost no contact with such motorcycles, but according to an announcement by the Indian automaker in October last year, this should change, as the company intends to expand globally and Brazil is included in this expansion. The automaker intends to open a motorcycle factory in the country with localized logistics and parts inventory, with prices that meet Brazilian consumers.

India automaker plans include cost-effective motorcycles

Bajaj's intentions are not limited to selling motorcycles, the automaker has plans to build a factory in Manaus (AM) with the potential to export to other markets in the region. Demonstrating that it is not kidding, the motorcycle manufacturer has already started to act. His first action was to confirm the contract with Waldyr Ferreira, head of operations in Brazil.

The plans of the automaker in India should be complete, counting, in addition to the factory, with logistics and localized parts inventory. An important point of Bajaj is that it is focused on entry models, mainly with low displacement motorcycles. The most sought after models have engines with approximately 100cm3 and 400cm3, so Bajaj could bring motorcycles that are more accessible to consumers to the Brazilian market.

Electric models of the Indian motorcycle manufacturer arouse the interest of Brazilians

In India, Bajaj does not only offer more affordable motorcycles, since it offers the cheapest motorcycle there: the CT100, a model that in the Indian country reaches 49.152 rupees, R$ 3,5 in direct conversion. It is a simple motorcycle, however, compared to the cheapest motorcycle in Brazil, the difference is huge.

In Brazil, the cheapest motorcycle is around R$6.980. The CT100 from the Indian automaker has a 102 cm3 single-cylinder engine with air cooling, but already fueled by electronic injection. It delivers only 7,9 hp of power, and in torque it delivers 0,83 kgfm of torque. The motorcycle has a four-speed gearbox. According to the automaker in India, the CT 100 reaches 90 km/h.

About Bajaj

In addition to combustion-powered motorcycles, the automaker is developing lines of electric motorcycles. The company launched the Chetak scooter in India in March this year (2021), a model that has slightly higher prices, reaching BRL 10,4.

Chetak has 3 kWh capacity batteries and a 3,8 kW electric motor, around 5,5 hp. With these configurations, Bajaj claims that the Chetak has a range that can reach up to 95 km and reach a speed of 70 km/h.
