The Polytechnic School of UFRJ launches a donation campaign aimed at individuals and companies to assist a group of about 800 students who do not have adequate devices and internet access to follow remote teaching. The institution has a total of 4,998 students, in 13 engineering courses, who had their academic activities suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and who will return to classes, remotely, next Monday, the 10th.

According to the Polytechnic director of UFRJ, Professor Cláudia Morgado, engineering students need access to a computer, and during regular periods, students with economic hardship satisfy this need by using the computing laboratories for undergraduate and research at the School.
“In this remote teaching situation, the need worsens because students will require a computer and internet access to attend classes, communicate with peers, and complete assignments using software available on servers and teaching platforms. In other words, the demand for IT equipment, which was already not fully met, has increased significantly, and the situation has become more impactful for the group of students who lack home digital access”, she explains.
