The administration of the Port of Suape held a major presentation at the Export 2022 event last Monday (25/04), for the debate on sustainability within port operations, focusing on changes in energy production and consumption. And about the innovation that is necessary for the modernization within the cargo handling chain in Brazil to happen in a more controlled, efficient way and, at the same time, with environmental commitment.

Export 2022 had the participation of Porto de Suape, which presented new sustainability solutions for the segment in the Brazilian market

The Northeast Export 2022 Regional Forum event, also known as Export 2022, was held by the organization Brasil Export and had the participation of several representatives of the brazilian transport. In addition, the entire event was held in a hybrid format, with face-to-face participation limited to speakers, advisors, sponsors and guest authorities and the participation of the general public, as listeners, through videoconferences over the Internet.

Thus, the Port of Suape held its presentation entitled “Energy revolution and green initiatives and their benefits in reducing costs”, focusing on sustainability within the port sector through changes in energy consumption and supply. Also present for the presentation was the director of Environment and Sustainability of the state-owned port, Carlos Cavalcanti, who will be one of the speakers. Suape's CEO, Roberto Gusmão; the director of Business Development, Luiz Barros; and the Innovation manager, André Lenon Silva.

Another point much debated by the Port of Suape in relation to sustainability was the challenges faced by the sector to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, of the United Nations (UN), in relation to the ESG practices necessary to the operations. Within this theme, the construction of ships and other vessels that can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions was the main point of innovation that could be adopted by ports over the next few years to contribute to this global market initiative.

In addition to the main topics on sustainability within the Brazilian port sector and how the Port of Suape can contribute to the environmental commitment, a major highlight of the event was the presentation of the App Suape, launched in January this year, by the Innovation manager, André Lenon Silva.

The application is the site's new bet for technological innovation within cargo handling operations and can make a strong contribution to the segment, as it gathers information on maritime traffic, port operations, a list of companies installed in the territory, news from the state-owned company and a range of other elements.

This application will also feature a technological innovation that is the union of this data with information on ESG practices within cargo handling operations, which meets the main focus of Export 2022 for the port segment in Brazil, the adoption sustainability in the sector.

Finally, in addition to the presentation of the Port of Suape, the Export 2022 event also featured a debate on the following topics: “Investments in rail transport as a factor for economic development”, “Value chains and structural challenges for transport of loads in the region”; “The improvement of multimodal connections with ports and innovative logistic solutions”; and “The importance of the Northeast region in the context of Brazil Export and Portugal Export”.
