Terminal Paulista obtains environmental approval

Comgás LNG Terminal, in Baixada Santista receives environmental approval, will be the first in the state of São Paulo and aims to strengthen distribution in the region

The São Paulo Gas Company (Comgas), obtained yesterday (30/04) the approval, by the São Paulo State Secretariat for Infrastructure and Environment, of the Environmental Impact Study and Report (EIA-Rima) of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Comgás, in Baixada Santista.
The terminal will be responsible for increasing LNG distribution capacity in the state of São Paulo and is part of the company's investment plan of around R$ 354 million.

Companhia de Gás de São Paulo is a Brazilian company, considered by Abegás to be the largest distributor of piped natural gas in Brazil, in terms of volume of gas distributed, and has 1,5 million customers.

The FSRU (Floating Regasification and Storage Unit)

The FSRU will be anchored in Lago do Caneú, close to Ilha dos Bagres in Santos, São Paulo, and will have the capacity to regasify up to 14 million m³/of its gas will reach the city gate of Cubatão through a .5 km long pipeline.
The project has already gone through public hearings in the region, between the 10th and 15th of October last year and now with this approval of the EIA-Rima the expectation is that it will start operating in 2020.

Following the country's current tendency to invest in natural gas (LNG), there are currently two more projects in progress, one of which is the port of Açu, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, with capacity to regasify up to 21 million m³/day.
The other venture is located in São Francisco do Sul (SC), which will have the capacity to receive up to 15 million m³/day of LNG.

Currently, Brazil has four LNG regasification terminals in operation, those located in Rio de Janeiro, Bahia and Ceará belong to Petrobras and the Terminal located in the municipality of Barra dos Coqueiros (SE), belongs to CELSE (Companhia Elétrica de Sergipe).

Petrobras plans to give up Comperj and build a thermoelectric plant in its place! Access here and stay informed!
