A new joint venture with Samsung SDI and GM will soon arrive in the US to leverage the capital and technology of both companies and create new competitive advantages for GM. Battery cells produced at the company's facility will be used to power GM electric vehicles based on the Ultium platform, increasing GM electric vehicle production in North America to more than 1 million units per year. Investing more than $3 billion in construction of the new US plant and scheduled to start in 2026, the Samsung and GM plant will have more than 30 GWh of capacity and will increase GM's total battery cell capacity in the US to approximately 160 GWh when operating at 100%, according to the website Insideevs Uol.

For now, there is no information about the location of the new battery factory or how many new jobs will be created. However, the companies stated that the number of new jobs in construction and operations is expected to be “in the thousands”. The facility will have production lines to manufacture prismatic and cylindrical nickel-rich cells.
