The “Taxation of the Sun” will come into effect next year and thousands of people are already moving ahead with the installation of solar energy systems to be exempt from fees in the generation of renewable energy.

After the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, it is quite common for the electricity bill to drop from R$ 2000 to R$ 95, however, a law sanctioned in January of this year, which seeks the 'Taxation of the Sun', aims to change this reality. O Distributed Generation Legal Framework regularized the charging of energy distribution costs for those who generate their own renewable energy. According to Law 14.300, those who install solar energy solar panels from January of next year (2023) will be charged taxes on the energy produced for their home, farm or business.

Legal framework for Distributed Generation regularized the charging of distribution costs

The benefits of solar energy there are countless for those who install the system, however it is necessary to be ahead of time to not be caught by Taxation of the Sun.

The renewable energy from this source makes your electricity bill immune to inflation and is getting easier for banks to finance every day. It is an almost free source of energy, as it is tax-free and has an almost non-existent cost compared to other forms, such as the electricity we receive in homes, which is increasingly expensive. O Distributed Generation Legal Framework regularized the charging of renewable energy distribution costs.

The so-called “Taxação do Sol” didn't sit well with Brazilians, and those planning to install solar panels and generate their own tax-free renewable energy should have the solar panels installed by December of this year to save their money. However, there is still time to save by installing solar energy in your home, in agribusiness or also in your company later this year.

Law of "Taxation of the Sun" refers to the payment of Thread B

According to information, it is necessary to have your project planned by a qualified team composed of technical fitters, electrical engineers and professionals specialized in the financing process, to mitigate the installation cost.

Widely discussed in the National Congress and also in other sectors of society, the new Taxation of the Sun law is derived from the bill 5.829/2019. Although it brings other changes, the main change in the new law is linked to the payment of a fee that changes the composition of the electricity bill, which is why it is known as the “taxation of the sun” law.

In this way, people who acquire a solar generation system from 2023 will be included in the new rule. Basically, those who generate renewable energy start paying for the use of the infrastructure made available by the distributor at times when there is no simultaneous generation, contrary to what happens today. This fee refers to the payment of the previously exempt Wire B, part of the Tariff for the Use of Distribution Systems.

Brazil should reach 25 GW in 2022

According to projections by the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR), Brazil should end this year with around 25 GW of installed capacity in solar energy.

This should represent an expansion of 91,7% in relation to the country's current numbers, which currently have around 13 GW.

In the entity's understanding, more than 11,9 GW should be added to the energy matrix, adding the large-scale plants and the own electric power generation systems.
