UFJF offers more than 280 places in free courses, including languages such as English, Spanish and French, aimed especially at residents of neighborhoods neighboring the institution.
A Juiz de Fora Federal University (UFJF) opens registrations for the program “Good Neighbor Languages“, aimed at offering free language courses to the community not linked to the institution. Interested parties can register until February 19th, using an online form or in person. In-person registrations take place from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 17pm, at the secretariat of the Dean of Extension (Proex), located in the UFJF Rectory building.
What free courses will be offered by UFJF?
In total, 282 places will be offered in seven free language courses: English language (two modules); Spanish, French, Greek; Portuguese (for foreigners); Italian and Libras. Language courses last three academic semesters and are divided into three modules, with a workload of 60 hours per class.
In total, there are 30 places for module I of the english language course and 35 for the initial modules of each of the other free courses. Candidates with some prior knowledge of the language and who wish to enter a more advanced level must take a placement test. The request is made at the time of registration. It is estimated that classes for UFJF language courses will begin the week of March 18th.
It is important to highlight that taking a language course is currently considered an essential condition for many professionals, considering that being fluent in more than one language is no longer a differentiator and has become a prerequisite for achieving a good placement in labor market. In fact, some companies, in addition to requiring the second language, already carry out the selection process in another dialect, especially in English, so the candidate must be prepared before even getting the position.

Those interested in applying for language courses must have studied in a public school or have received a full scholarship in a private school in elementary or high school. It is also necessary that the candidate has completed primary education as a minimum. Vacancies are priority for residents of neighborhoods surrounding UFJF.
The complete list of neighborhoods can be found in the notice. Candidates for the English Language course must be 18 years old or over. Candidates for other courses must be 16 years of age or older.
The competitor can compete for a place in up to three language courses offered, indicating the first, second and third options, in order of preference, when registering. It is also important to mention that the draw for those approved will be broadcast on the Proex YouTube channel, on February 29th, starting at 15pm. The final list of those selected will be published on the sector's website on March 1st, also from 15pm.

The placement test is an assessment aimed at those who have prior knowledge and wish to enter a more advanced level of the desired course.

Anyone who expresses interest in taking the level test, at the time of registration, if offered a place for the desired training, must take a level test, to be carried out in person on the date and time defined in the notice. The student who does not pass the test will be added to the end of the Waiting List for module I of the desired language, in descending order of the grade obtained in the leveling process.
