GD's Legal Framework has just completed its six months of existence after Jair Bolsonaro's approval of law 14300, which provides that small, medium and large solar energy generators through photovoltaic panels will pay taxes of ICMS for resident states. The amount of taxes may vary according to the region and the quantity produced.

The new law allows citizens who install by January 07, 2023, to be exempt from paying ICMS debts until the year 2045, as an incentive. However, after that, there will be the collection of taxes as determined by the federal government, which caused the search for the sector to increase and the base material, polysilicon, had one of its highest values in the last 11 years.

Solar energy companies report that approval of the law led to an increase in sales with consumers expecting not to pay taxes

Companies that sell and install solar panels and microinverters, such as NeoSolar, said that sales increased after the approval of the legal framework, as consumers expect not to pay any taxes until 2045.

According to the company's founding partner, Raphael Pintão, the customers who are generally purchasing photovoltaic panels are those linked to environmental and social causes, who aim to reduce carbon dioxide in the environment and lower their electricity bills.

NeoSolar claims that Brazilians, even “minimally informed”, have access to information about all the advantages that solar energy guarantees. And, with that in mind, it is estimated that their demands will increase significantly until January of next year, the deadline for the start of state taxation.

One of the aspects, in addition to the tax exemption in the year 2022, which makes consumers decide to invest in solar energy, is in relation to the exponential increase in fossil fuel prices, which cause traditional energy to receive instabilities every year. To give you an idea, this year alone, the Aneel approved a project that foresees an increase of up to 65% on the prices adopted in the tariff flags, mainly at the highest levels. O coal, in 2022, showed increases of 103% and the oil doubled in prices.

In addition, Raphael Pintão argues that properties that are sold with solar energy undergo a great appreciation, because the customer who is carrying out the acquisition believes that he will be gaining more savings, since the cost reduction can overcome 95% of the electricity bill. Buying homes with photovoltaic panels is an increasingly attractive alternative.

The solar energy system usually pays for itself within three years. However, in the case of financing or a higher investment amount, it may take up to 7 years, with a production of at least 80% of what was contracted together with the guarantee of durability of the panels for up to 25 years. Some companies, however, even supply a minimum production percentage for more than 30 years.
