BNDES allocates financing to install in MacaƩ the first thermal plant to use natural gas from the Brazilian pre-salt layer

MacaƩ, December 19, 2019. The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced this Thursday (19) a loan of 2 billion reais with the company Marlim Azul Energia for the implementation of a thermoelectric plant in the city of MacaƩ, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. With a capacity to generate 565 MW, the plant will use natural gas from the Brazilian pre-salt layer. The plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2022 and will start operating in January 2023. Estimates are that the work on the project should generate more than 4 direct and indirect jobs in MacaƩ, according to the BNDES.

Marlim Azul Energia is a consortium formed by Shell Gas, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems America and Grupo PƔtria, for the implementation of the project.
