New natural gas market and application of the Gas Law will bring benefits to industry and consumers    

The Federal Government launched, in Porto Velho/RO, the program to open the newest gas market in Rondônia. Since last year, it has been possible to carry out the modernization of the natural gas market in Brazil, due to initiatives such as the new Gas Law program and also the presidential sanction of the Legal Framework for natural gas.

Know the Gas Law

The Gas Law, sanctioned in April 2021 by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, was the starting point for the creation of a new market, with new rules imposed for the exploration of activities of flow, treatment, processing, underground storage, packaging, liquefaction, regasification and marketing of natural gas.

In this way, state distributors will be able to have their markets served by several natural gas suppliers that are already emerging, in addition to Petrobras. This measure is intended to attract new investments to the natural gas sector, in addition to encouraging competition in this market, helping to open up several possibilities to reduce the final price of the product.

The Federal Government also aims at more efficient use of the infrastructure that already exists on the exploration platforms. According to the Government of the State of Rondônia, some companies have already expressed interest in exploring natural gas in the state, with a good investment.

With the opening of the natural gas market in Rondônia, gas exploration in the basin of the Solimões and Amazonas rivers, in the Amazon Region, has potential. According to Eneva, natural gas production began in 2021, in the Azulão field, the first area explored.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, this measure will bring several benefits not only to the local industry, but also to consumers, who will be able to use natural gas to fuel vehicles, homes or businesses.

Also according to the MME, as production grows, there will also be a reduction in the price of cooking gas. Bento Albuquerque, Minister of Mines and Energy, reported that there is a parameter between attracting business and generating jobs and income, due to the opening of the new natural gas market. He claims that the product has several applications both in the generation of electricity and in industry, in addition to the transport sector and the service sector.

Other states will benefit from the opening of the natural gas market and the Gas Law

Another initiative of the Federal Government that contributed to the opening of the gas sector in the country was the Novo Mercado de Gás program, launched in 2019, also by Bolsonaro, where measures are analyzed and imposed aimed at all links in the gas valuation chain. natural gas, from the flow of production to its distribution, always respecting the particular competence of the states, allowing each one to regulate local piped gas services. In addition to Rondônia, some other states are updating the legislation to receive the Novo Mercado de Gás project, and states such as Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí and Ceará have already adapted to the requirements.
