Google released a new report that identifies the absence of more than half a million information technology professionals in Brazil by 2025.

Currently, with the great presence of tech in our lives these days, it's almost impossible to imagine life without it. However, even with this great demand, there is still a small number of qualified technology professionals in the Brazilian market, which should worsen significantly in the coming years.

Data Google for Startups, in partnership with Abstartups and Box 1824, a total of 85 million jobs will be left unfilled worldwide due to the lack of IT professionals for the vacancies.

For André Barrence, director of Google for Startups for Latin America, “there are many vacancies and few qualified professionals to meet the current needs of the market”.

Deficit may exceed 500 thousand in Brazil by 2025

Without workers, the world could fail to generate approximately US$8,5 trillion a year in revenue.

In Brazil, the Google report estimates a deficit of 530 technology professionals in the period from 2021 to 2025. According to the director of Google for Startups for Latin America, André Barrence, the lack of talent in the ecosystem is huge.

There are thousands of vacancies and few qualified workers. There is a structural problem in the country's education that goes far beyond qualification in technology at graduation.

According to Barrence, it is only possible to address this challenge with medium and long-term actions. The goal is to spark a conversation about the importance of exploring technology at various stages throughout life. The survey, which was released on May 31, led by Google, calculated that there will be 53 new technology graduates per year between 2021 and 2025 in Brazil, thus totaling around 265.

However, the report states that the domestic market will have a demand of 800 new talents in those same years. In this way, there will be a deficit of at least 530 professionals trained in the sector.

Challenges in the market that generate the absence of technology professionals

Experts claim that the main obstacles found in the market and that generate this imbalance between IT professionals and demand are the poor conditions to study, the lag in teaching logical thinking in Brazilian schools, the distance between young Brazilians and large centers of technological knowledge, young people with difficulty finding their first tech job and migrating to other areas.

Os salaries in Brazil are not attractive compared to international markets, many qualified professionals will work abroad, emptying the staff in the country and the technology market excludes women and black people, since Brazil has few incentives for the inclusion of politically minority groups.

Google research shows that more people studying technology and more promotion of Brazilian businesses are needed to retain talent in the country, generating training and experience, expanding the number of working professionals and, in this way, guaranteeing seniority in the sector. This reinforces the fact that the challenge requires active attention and efforts from all sides of society.

The report points out the top 20 occupations that signal increased demand in the market across all sectors globally:
