SUV recall warning comes after Ford announced it is laying off 580 U.S. employees to step up its reorganization of its combustion engine business and increase production of electric vehicles
The multinational Ford Motor ordered the withdrawal of more than 250.000 Explorer SUVs from the market, due to a damage that causes the vehicles to move, even when they are parked. The recall alert comes after the automaker presented its results for the first quarter of the year and announced the layoff of 580 employees in the US to increase its production of electric vehicles.
According to Ford, the damage causes one of the rear axle mounting bolts to break, causing the transmission to disconnect.
When this happens, SUVs can move if they don't have the parking brake on, according to documents published by US safety regulators.

Ford lays off 580 US employees to reorganize its combustion engine business and increase its electric vehicle production
Ford's ambitious plans to expand its electric vehicle market are not good news for 580 US employees who were laid off at the end of April.
The shipowner detailed that the cut applied to 350 jobs of salaried employees and 230 that were part of external agencies.
"We continue to align the team around the critical skills needed to deliver our products, services and the Ford+ plan," the automaker said in a statement.
The decision was taken based on the implementation of the Ford+ strategy, with which the company seeks to reorganize its combustion engine business and strengthen its electric motor area.
It was precisely in the areas of engineering that the cuts were applied almost entirely, after the turn towards a greater commitment to electric motors, both for cars and vans.
Ford explained that the decision was made based on the different needs needed for the production of this type of engine. "As part of the ongoing management of our business, we will continue to align our team to meet our needs and future business plans," added the automaker.
As layoffs of nearly 600 employees began to be implemented, immediately after the company issued a statement announcing a net loss of $3,1 billion for the first quarter of the year.
