Oil workers' strike comes to an end. The agreement between Petrobras and employees provides that half of the downtime will be discounted and the other half compensated.

Oil workers' strike comes to an end. Petrobras and the company's workers closed an agreement, this Friday, ending the strike that lasted 20 days. The agreement was announced and mediated by the minister of the Superior Labor Court Ives Gandra Martins Filho, after a meeting measured by him, in Brasília.  France's Total licensed five oil wells in the Campos Basin

Last Monday, Ives Gandra responded to a request from Petrobras and considered the strike abusive and illegal. A day later, the minister informed that he would agree to mediate the negotiations, as long as the workers suspended the strike. The category then decided to temporarily suspend the stoppage.

The agreement provides that half of the days stopped will be discounted and the other half compensated. Petrobras agreed to revise the shift table, a demand from the category, to meet "the will of the workers".

The state-owned company will also withhold R$ 2,4 million from union fees, as a form of fine. The original fine amounted to R$58,5 million.

Next Thursday there will be a meeting to discuss layoffs at the Paraná Nitrogen Fertilizer Factory (Fafen), a subsidiary of Petrobras, one of the reasons for the strike.

According to the state company, the factory has presented recurring losses since it was acquired. The stoppage of the category began on February 1st.

For the minister, the closure of the factory will hardly be reversed

- The expectation is that we can give a referral that satisfies workers, that solves the company's problem, but now, we will hardly be able to reverse the issue of the company working again because it is really disabled - said Ives Gandra.

Damage caused by the strike

The strike dragged on since the beginning of the month and reached 16 units of the state-owned company in ten states. The movement came in response to Petrobras' decision to close the factory in Paraná and dismiss the unit's 396 workers — reaching almost a thousand, including outsourced workers.

Petrobras says that the strike did not affect oil and fuel production and avoided the risk of shortages. To ensure uninterrupted oil production and refining, the company mobilized contingency teams, with employees able to replace the strikers

According to Petrobras, the damage caused by the strike, referring to overtime paid to contingency teams and temporary salaries, was estimated at R$ 55,9 million.
