Aneel announces a further reduction in the electricity bill. The conditions will be valid for consumers connected to the National Interconnected System.

A National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) announced last Friday (26) the application of the green tariff flag for the electricity bill in the month of September. The flag, which signals favorable conditions for generating electricity, will be valid for all consumers connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN).

Electricity bill reduction tariff flag has been in effect since April

The green tariff flag, which implies a reduction in the electricity bill, has been in force by Aneel since April 16, after the end of the water scarcity, the level adopted in the last year to guarantee the supply of electricity. Also last Friday, the National Electric System Operator (ONS) released the forecast for the level of reservoirs in the SIN subsystems for the next month.

The estimate is that the Southeast and Midwest will end the month with 48,5% of the volume, North with 78,8%, Northeast 67,3% and South 71,8%. It is worth remembering that in the month of June the Aneel approved an increase of up to 60% in additional charges for brands, however, this month, the entity announced another readjustment, this time general, in electricity bill prices in 7 states.

Values will be increased by up to almost 32% depending on the type of supply and location. The new readjustment will impact 9 distributors, with the biggest increase being felt by EFLUL's high voltage customers, who will have an increase of up to 1,94% in their electricity bill.

Senate approves bill reduction bill

The Federal Senate has already approved the PL 414 of 2021, which changes the regulatory framework of the electricity sector and expands the opening of the free energy market, expanding purchasing power for captive consumers, who currently can only obtain electricity from pre-defined distributors and with no option to choose.

With the opening of the market, the expectation is that there will be a reduction in the electricity bill for consumers. A relief for Brazilians who have seen the value of energy skyrocket, expected to rise even more this year, according to Aneel data.

For the CEO of Trinity Energias Renováveis, João Sanches, with the PL regulated, several customers will have the chance to choose the company that will meet their electricity consumption, with the benefit of buying on demand and saving money, depending on factors such as the moment market price, rainfall performance and others. With the vote on the PL expected later this year, operations may be more competitive, with the opening of the sector and the expansion of companies and customers.

PL will bring a reduction in the electricity bill and several benefits, but it may take time

For Sanches, competition in the free energy market ensures greater flexibility for customers and companies, who can decide which is the best supplier and the type of contract to be established, making room for defining which provider best meets the demands, whether in solid companies or contractual satisfaction.

The PL, which has Fernando Coelho Filho as its rapporteur, has already been approved in the Senate and is now awaiting a vote in the Special Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.

After approval, a period of 42 months will still be made available for it to take effect, which may generate benefits for a significant part of the population, considering that few benefit from the purchase of energy on the free market.
