Petrobras expands pipeline capacity

ANP grants authorization and the Cabiúnas 1 consortium, owner of the Rota 2 gas pipeline, will expand its capacity to 20 million m³/day.

Last Monday (01/07), the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) responded to the request of the Cabiúnas 1 Consortium, owner of the Route 2 gas pipeline, and granted authorization to increase the capacity from 16 million to 20 million m³/day flow of natural gas from pre-salt fields to the Cabiúnas processing unit, in Macaé (RJ).

In Operation since 2016, the Route 2 gas pipeline is the link for the flow of natural gas from the platforms of the pre-salt fields, the largest of which is the Lula field.

The gas pipeline is 382 kilometers long and starts in the pre-salt area of the Santos Basin, continues to the Cabiúnas Gas Treatment Unit (UTGCAB), in operation in the city of Macaé, where the gas is processed and distributed. .

Owned by Petrobras, Shell, Petrogal and Repsol Sinopec, the Rota 2 gas pipeline is 24 inches in diameter (about 61 centimeters) and its previous capacity was to carry up to 16 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

New pipeline design

During OTC 2019, in Hoston, the Secretary of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Márcio Félix, declared that the Petrobras is studying the construction of more gas pipeline networks, which will be called Routes 4, 5 and 6.
The routes would serve to help in the flow of natural gas produced in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, today Petrobras has Routes 1, 2 and 3.

The new pipelines have the capacity to carry up to 45 million m3 of natural gas per day and, according to the initial study, would be 515 km long.

Petrobras expands its presence in China and will increase oil exports by 30%. Start of tanking operations at the Port of Qingdao, the sixth largest in the world, will help to solidify the company's presence in the Chinese market
