The objective of the TransHydrogen Alliance (THA) is to guarantee a renewable energy supply and export chain for the European continent. Casa dos Ventos and Comerc signed an agreement for the initial production of green ammonia at the Porto do Pecém plant.

Aiming at the future of the sustainable energy market, Casa dos Ventos and Comerc signed an important agreement with the TransHydrogen Alliance (THA). The companies have a plan to export the initial production of green ammonia in Porto do Pecém, Ceará, to the European market. Thus, the plant with a capacity of up to 2,4 GW of electrolysis will guarantee a supply of renewable energy to the European continent.

THA aims to secure the renewable energy supply chain in Europe by exporting the initial production of green ammonia from the Casa dos Ventos project and Comerc

The project for the production of hydrogen and green ammonia in Porto do Pecém, Ceará, conceived by the companies Casa dos Ventos and Comerc, has taken on new directions.

The companies announced an agreement with THA to export the initial production at the plant to the European market, using the Port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.

Casa dos Ventos and Comerc have a pre-contract with the Port of Pecém for the installation of a fuel production plant, with a capacity of up to 2,4 GW of electrolysis, which will be able to produce 960 tons of hydrogen per day, and 2,2 million tons of ammonia per year.

In this way, they are now seeking to boost a regional market for their products for the coming years. The contract with THA for the export of green ammonia marks an important step towards this.

In addition, it will ensure more benefits and contributions from the Port of Pecém to the decarbonization of the European energy sector.

“We want to use the abundant renewable resources in Ceará and neighboring states to expand our decarbonization solutions abroad”, highlighted Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.

Several European countries are already looking to Brazil for a source of renewable energy exports, such as Germany. The country's chancellor, Olaf Scholz, visited Brazil recently and reinforced his interest in working with the country in expanding renewable energy and the production of green hydrogen.

Green hydrogen and green ammonia plant, started in 2021, is already one of the big bets for the energy market in the coming years

After signing the pre-contract with the Port of Pecém for the development of the hydrogen and green ammonia plant in December 2022, Casa dos Ventos and Comerc expand the actions to accelerate the project.

The development of the project started in 2021 and is now in the environmental licensing and basic project phase to start implementation in stages.

The new fuel production plant will occupy an area of up to 60 hectares in the Export Processing Zone (ZPE Ceará).

The objective is not only to invest in the export of products, but also to promote a true renewable hub with socioeconomic contributions to the state of Ceará.

“Green hydrogen is the fuel of the future, but it is already a reality and a worldwide trend”, commented Marcel Haratz, President of Comerc Eficiencia.

With the new contract signed with THA for the export of green ammonia, Casa dos Ventos and Comerc make significant progress in their project at the Port of Pecém.
