The year 2022 has barely ended and continues to deliver impressive results for the domestic market, in particular Rio de Janeiro. The presence of Rio de Janeiro cities in the oil and natural gas market has been proving to be even greater in recent years.
Rio de Janeiro registers a strong presence in the fuel sector with billionaire oil royalty collection in 2022, highlights Firjan
Everyone knows that Rio de Janeiro has a strong potential for growth and production in the oil and natural gas market, but recent results show an even more expressive expansion in the segment.
Firjan released the results of the collection of oil royalties and special participations in 2022, with almost R$ 50 billion allocated to the public coffers of the state and municipalities of Rio de Janeiro in the year.

According to the balance sheet, the resources received directly by the state total more than R$ 30,5 billion (R$ 12,8 in royalties and R$ 17,7 billion in special participations).
In relation to the collection destined to municipalities, there were R$ 14,49 billion in royalties and R$ 4,43 billion in special participations last year.
Preliminary studies, released by Firjan for the regional market in April 2022, showed large revenue projections for the year in the oil and natural gas sector.
The entity pointed out that the state and its cities would register record collection, proving the expansion of the segment in the last year.
The acting president of Firjan, Luiz Césio Caetano, celebrated the results and highlighted: “Firjan is aware of the significant collection from a finite asset. It is important to remember that it occurred due to the price of the barrel and the dollar and, therefore, it is not possible to guarantee that it will always increase”.
“Therefore, it is necessary for state and municipal authorities to plan for the future with investments in strategic areas for the sustainable development of the state. It is of fundamental importance to apply this resource in a responsible manner, as it is a financial compensation for the activity, and it is necessary to transform it into a benefit for the economy and society of Rio de Janeiro”, concluded the specialist.
Factors such as the value of a barrel of oil and the price of the dollar in Brazil boost the collection of fuel royalties recorded in 2022
The great results in the collection of oil royalties for the Rio de Janeiro market recorded by Firjan in 2022 were the result of a series of factors.
Among them is the high price charged per barrel of oil in 2022, which was above US$ 100, a growth of 43%, as highlighted by the federation's Oil, Gas and Naval manager, Karine Fragoso.
In addition, keeping the dollar above R$ 5 also allowed the amount collected to be even greater last year.
Finally, the growth in production, stimulated by the entry of two new oil platforms in Rio de Janeiro, one in 2021 and another in 2022, was one more of the points that led to the great results.
Firjan data prove the strong presence of the state of Rio de Janeiro in the national oil market, with good prospects for 2023.
