Those Christmas trees play an essential role in controlling the flow and outflow of oil and natural gas in onshore and offshore exploration wells.

It is from the dry Christmas tree that the unusual name of the equipment comes from. In winter, in cold regions, equipment full of lights is often covered with snow, which made some see resemblance to a giant Christmas tree. The name soon stuck.
