The offshore wind energy park to be built in Ceará will ensure the state's growth in the renewables segment, generate jobs and income for the people of Ceará

Ceará is considered a pioneer in Brazil in the renewable energy process, which has attracted investments to the region. This Thursday (10), a memorandum of understanding was signed by the state government with the Chinese manufacturer of renewable energy equipment Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Ltd to implement an offshore wind farm project on the coast of Ceará.

Camilo Santana, governor of Ceará, said that the state has great potential to produce electricity from renewable sources, especially wind. The undertaking by Ming Yang will ensure the state's growth in the renewables segment, generate jobs and generate income for the people of Ceará, added the governor.

Ming Yang manufactures wind turbines, photovoltaic (PV) products and smart energy solutions and is considered a pioneer in offshore wind innovation. According to market researcher Wood Mackenzie, the company ranked sixth in the world for turbine installations in 2019.

Details and more information about amounts or dates for the execution of the construction project of the offshore wind complex in Ceará were not disclosed by the parties involved.

Good winds in the Brazilian offshore

Brazil is broadening the horizons for offshore wind energy generation projects, mainly in the Northeast of the country, where the potential is greatest, with its extensive coastline and climate conditions favorable to the wind.

Studies show the potential for offshore wind energy production in Brazil is 11.000 gigawatts, with 57% located in nine states in the northeast region, with emphasis on Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte.
