General Motors made the right car, at the right price, with enough range, in the right place, at the right time. The tiny electric costs ten times less than the American model and makes Tesla tremble

The Shanghai-GM joint venture, which manufactures and sells Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac cars in Mainland China, has absolute success on its hands, with the Mini becoming the best-selling EV in China, due largely to the starting price. of around $4.500. The tiny electric car was a bold bet by General Motors for a strange market niche, in which things that copy the identity of famous products gain notoriety through explicit cloning, as is the case recently announced by Click Petróleo e Gás, in which a Chinese automaker cloned Volkswagen's iconic Kombi, shortly after shamelessly manufacturing an electric copy of the Beetle.

There is much more to the charm and success of this car, which offers exactly what consumers want and nothing they don't. In just a few months, the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV, unveiled by General Motors in China in August 2020, has become one of the best-selling electric vehicles in the country. The small car has achieved such popularity that it is compared as equal to the Tesla Model 3.

In the case of the Mini EV, the proposal was an unpretentious urban mini car with a very low price, as this segment adopts. The US$ 4.500 (R$ 22.710, ten times less than Tesla's product) praised by the global press are nothing close to what is there, but Hong Guang has a differential.

GM simply saw 270.000 units sold in just nine months. Based in Liuzhou, Wuling is rolling out other products that will go global and the Mini EV takes advantage of that too.

The Mini EV is so successful in China that General Motors wants to market it in Europe

With Shanghai-GM behind it, the Mini EV means it's not a low-quality clone, made by a rustic automaker in the interior of China, but a player ready to even go beyond the country's borders.

The ambition of the Chinese division is to reach 1,2 million units sold in 2022! This is almost like every electric car manufacturer in the country in 2020.

With 100% sales online, the Chinese brand speaks directly to customers, listening to consumers and manufactures what they want, such as the Macaron version (colors alluding to fruits and sweets), while offering 20 colors and a lot of stickers for customization, non-existent in traditional brands.

Such is the enthusiasm that SAIC and General Motors have for its success that they want to market it in Europe. For this, they are already in negotiations with a company in Latvia to reach competitive manufacturing costs.

Going down that road, the Mini EV is a serious contender for the world's best-selling electric car, which costs ten times less than the American model, which makes Tesla shudder.

After ceasing to manufacture vehicles and closing its factories in Brazil, the automaker Ford Motor should sell the Troller factory in Horizonte (CE) by the end of June, according to the Secretary of Economic Development and Labor of Ceará, Maia Júnior. In an interview with CBN radio, Maia confirmed that a group from the automotive engineering sector showed interest in acquiring the plant.

The Ceará State Government is acting as an intermediary in the negotiation, and has promised tax incentives to the company that acquires the Ford complex, especially if it focuses on clean energy. “Our priority is to maintain jobs,” Maia told CBN.

The Troller factory in Ceará generates 470 direct jobs and employees are at risk of being fired, as happened with the closure of the Ford factory in Camaçari (BA), which left more than five thousand people unemployed. "We want the future buyer to come with advances in the automotive industry that are not restricted to production", says the secretary.
