The new projects were in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States. Amazon has already invested in 6,5 GW of wind and solar projects, which have enabled the company to provide its operations with more than 18 million megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually.
The company's power generation capacity can supply 1,7 million homes in the United States for a year. The projects will bring renewable energy to Amazon's corporate offices, distribution centers and service providers supporting the company's millions of customers around the world.
Amazon's goal is to consume 100% renewable energy and achieve zero net carbon emissions in its operations by the year 2040. Part of this commitment is to supply the company's infrastructure with energy entirely from a renewable source, a milestone that must be achieved by 2025, five years before the initial target, which was 2030.
The company today showcases 127 renewable energy projects around the world, including 59 utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar and wind) and 68 solar roofs at fueling centers and distribution centers.
