Engineers from IHM Stefanini will travel to France to acquire expertise and work on the Brazilian PROSUB submarine project, making the national naval industry reposition itself in this type of project
IHM Stefanini announced its participation in the construction of the first Brazilian nuclear submarine, the SN Álvaro Alberto. The project is part of the Submarine Development Program (PROSUB), established in 2008 through a technology transfer agreement signed between Brazil and France.
The project will be coordinated by Naval Group, a world reference in naval defense. IHM Stefanini was chosen among more than 70 companies, through rigorous evaluations and audits that, in addition to technical competence, also considered the ability to manage highly complex projects.
The project foresees the conception of the IPMS system (Integrated Platform Management System), supply of panels, configuration of PLCs, networks and cybersecurity systems. A group of engineers from IHM Stefanini will receive training for four months in France, at the Naval Group center of excellence in marine equipment.
Only six countries in the world have nuclear submarines: USA, Russia, China, UK, France and India. Helping Brazil to join this select group involves a great responsibility, and it is also an honor and recognition of the quality of the work carried out.

Humaitá is the second of the four and should be ready by the end of 2022.
The first submarine in the program was launched at sea on December 14 of last year and was named Riachuelo (S40) and its sea test is scheduled for this year.
The Humaitá sea test (S-41) is scheduled for 2020, the Tonelero (S42) in 2021 and the Angostura (S43) in 2022. Source: IHM Stefanini
