RenovaBio, which will start tomorrow (24), establishes mechanisms to mobilize the ethanol and biodiesel industries, such as JBS, to comply with strict rules against deforestation for agricultural expansion.
In up to a decade, through the CBios, the government's initiative aims to remove approximately 670 million tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, contributing to the fulfillment of the goals of the Paris Agreement. In addition, it should give financial incentives to producers, allowing payment for environmental services rendered.
As a result, dozens of companies have participated in the process seeking approval for issuing CBios. By December 14th, 47 companies were in the public consultation phase with a view to issuing certificates and five had been approved, according to the ANP, including BSBios biodiesel units and JBS.
The Agency also stated that it believes that the companies approved in the coming months will be enough for Brazil to reach the target for the year 2020, whose decarbonization is around 28,7 million tons.
