Billund Airport, Denmark, was the chosen location for Maersk Air Carg's air freight hub.

A Maersk, a global logistics giant, announced that it will have its own air transport network with owned and leased aircraft, just like the structure that and empresa has in its ocean fleet. The air logistics solution service is called maersk air cargo and aims to further increase the company's presence in the global cargo sector. Hub will be at Billund Airport, Denmark.

According to the company, the capacity that will be powered by Maersk Air Cargo is designed to make supply chain journeys more “resilient and intuitive”. By combining maritime, land, and warehousing and customs services, the trend is to drive the supply chain in many ways.

Maersk's ambition is for a third of its annual air tonnage to be carried within its own controlled freight network. The remaining capacity will be provided by strategic commercial carriers and charter operators, which are those that do not follow common airline schedules. Maersk Air Cargo is expected to be fully operational from the second half of 2022.

“We see continued and growing demand for air cargo, both today and in the future, as well as growing demand for end-to-end logistics, so it is important to strengthen our self-control capability and further advance our air freight strategy” .

Air freight company Star Air transferred activities to Maersk Air Cargo. Thus, five aircraft were transferred, two B777F models and three B767-300 cargo. Three new B767-300 Freighters are also expected to be added. Maersk expects that by 2024 all these aircraft will be operational.

Maersk Air Cargo's presence at Billund Airport is expected to further the growth of West Denmark's business community. The airport's CEO, Jan Hessellund, says he is proud of the presence of the project.

“We had growth, we defied the pandemic and set a new record year in load in 2021. It doesn't happen without good partners, and we do what we can to make our partners good. Now, Maersk Air Cargo steps onto the stage at Billund Airport and lifts it up a notch. We are incredibly proud to be chosen as Maersk's European hub for air freight and look forward to developing the collaboration to new heights.”
