Brazilian imports grow in volume and variety
Brazil recorded a surplus commercial revenue of a staggering US$19,08 billion in the first quarter of 2024, marking a 22,2% increase compared to the same period last year. These numbers are a clear indication that the Brazilian economy continues to expand its presence on the global stage.
Helmuth Hofstatter, CEO and founder of Logcomex, highlights that there was a modest increase of 6,5% in the quantity of products imported by Brazil. He also reported that the total weight of imported products reached the mark of more than 40 billion kilograms. However, the average price of these products saw a 4% reduction, with the FOB value for the quarter reaching US$59,2 billion, which also reflects a small decrease of 2% compared to 2023.
Details of imported products
Among the most imported items are gas oil (diesel oil), with emphasis on its NCM code 27101921, followed by crude petroleum oils and other potassium chlorides. Chemical products, naphtha for petrochemicals and bituminous coal were also significant in imports, showing the diversity of the country's industrial needs.

According to Hofstatter, it is important to note that there has been a 16% decline in the FOB value of imported chemicals. On the other hand, the electronics segment saw a growth of 1,2%, while the machinery and equipment segment saw an impressive increase of 9%. This data indicates significant changes in import trends and in the economic sectors that are expanding most quickly.

The main exporters to Brazil, measured by FOB value, were China, the United States, Germany, Argentina and Russia. These countries continue to be vital to Brazil's foreign trade operations, providing a wide range of products that support several Brazilian industries.
