Follow the case of the gentleman who paid more for replacing the battery in Mercedes-Benz than for the electric car itself, at the time he bought it

Often, when we buy something, over time it needs to be maintained, where we usually pay for the service to be carried out. But can you imagine having to pay up to three times more for the maintenance of something that didn't even cost that much, even if it had been expensive? That's what happened to the 63-year-old British Sanjit Singh, who bought a hybrid electric car and a few years later, when replacing the battery in a Mercedes-Benz, he paid much more than the value of the car itself.

Understand the case

The elderly Sanjit Singh, who went through this very uncomfortable situation, said that he bought his current second-hand hybrid electric car, about four years ago, for the amount of 32,2 euros.

As soon as the hybrid model's battery life came to an end after eight years of use - plus 4 initial years from the first owner, totaling 8 years. Sanjit Singh then decided to call Mercedez-Benz's services, trusting authorized assistance, aiming at preserving the vehicle by placing it in the hands of the manufacturer's specialized mechanic workshop. But he did not imagine that he would have to pay around 17,91 thousand euros for the battery and an additional labor cost that would cost 238,9 euros per hour.

After receiving the bill for replacing the battery on his Mercedes-Benz electric car, Sanjit Singh was left with few and unfortunate options.

According to Singh, in a statement to Leicestershire Live, he felt as if he only had two options: either get rid of the car or pay the absurd amount he was charged. He also reported that he always opted for the cars offered by Mercedes-Benz, for loving the cars they produce and also for the reliability that it always conveys to customers.

Singh didn't mince words to say how horrified he was by the situation. According to the famous used car website 'Auto Trader', Singh's hybrid electric car is now valued at just €15,35.

Mercedes-Benz pronounces on the case

After seeking advice from an electric and hybrid car expert, Singh was told that unfortunately there was nothing he could do, as among electric car battery replacement prices, this was the cheapest one to find on the market. .

Singh further reported that the specialist himself also had a Mercedes-Benz Hybrid model, from the year 2018, with exactly the same problem as him. The elderly man explained that he and the expert had scoured the Mercedes-Benz online forums to see if they found others or many people who are experiencing the same problems.

And the conclusion they both drew was that this situation is only going to get worse. In note, the German brand belonging to the Daimler AG group defended itself, ensuring that Mercedes-Benz makes available online any and all information regarding vehicle maintenance, in addition to informing customers about the battery certificate during the purchase process.
