Both companies that signed the agreement are targeting the production of 77 average megawatts (MWm) of renewable energy, starting in July 2024

AES Brasil (AESB3) announced on Thursday a historic agreement with Microsoft, consolidating a long-term renewable energy contract worth BRL 1 billion. This contract marks an unprecedented partnership between the two companies in Brazil and represents a significant step in expanding the supply of clean energy in the country, according to the Infomoney website.

Lasting 15 years, Microsoft's contract provides for the supply of 77 average megawatts (MWm) of energy from July 2024. This energy will be generated in a wind farm with an installed capacity of 154 MW, located in the state of Rio Grande From north.

Expanded Global Partnership for Renewable Energy

This collaboration extends an existing global relationship between AES and Microsoft, reinforcing both companies' commitment to renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions. With a total installed capacity estimated at more than 1,4 gigawatts (GW), with 684 MW already under construction, this energy complex is a key element in the transition to clean energy sources. Work began in 2022, and the complex is expected to begin operating in the second half of this year.

This partnership not only drives the expansion of renewable energy generation capacity in Brazil, but also reinforces the Microsoft's commitment to achieving its sustainability and carbon neutrality goals. The company has been actively seeking partnerships with clean energy providers around the world to power its operations with renewable energy.
