Seeking greater competitiveness and reaching a historic milestone in the logistics sector, the multinational Bracell and MRS Logística built a rail modal to transport pulp worth R$ 58 million

In Pederneiras (SP), a railway modal was inaugurated for pulp transportation. The structure was built in partnership between MRS logistics and pulp production companies Bracell. In total, the logistics company and the multinational invested around BRL 58 million, considering the railway branch and the terminal.

Bracell factory will benefit from rail transport for pulp

The new factory of the multinational Bracell in Lençóis Paulista (SP), will need a complex logistic operation for the transport of the cellulose as the rail modal carried out in partnership with MRS Logística. The product will arrive at the terminal in road-train vehicles, sider type, with an estimated capacity of up to 8 vehicles per hour.

The trains carrying the cellulose depart from the Pederneiras railway modal and travel to the Port of Santos, which can be more than 500 km by rail. The trains will operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Each train consists of up to 3 locomotives and 60 wagons and transports around 113 trucks.

For the director of Supply Chain at Bracell SP, Alberto Pagano, using rail as the main means of transporting the multinational's pulp production brought several benefits to the company.

According to Pagano, this is a model that adheres to the environmental and sustainability standards adopted by Bracell. Intermodal logistics ensures a reduction in the volume of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere in the flow of production. In addition, logistics operations using rail transport provide greater cargo security, predictability and also generate new employment and income opportunities both in the region close to the factory and in the Port of Santos.

Rail modal of the multinational Bracell and MRS Logística is an important milestone for the Brazilian logistics sector

The intermodal complex operated and built by MRS Logística is an important investment for the Brazilian logistics sector. According to Guilherme Mello, president of MRS, the privileged location and all the support that the companies have received from the Pederneiras city hall gives the company the certainty that many other businesses and undertakings will soon arise in the region.

Brazil needs more incentives in logistics, otherwise it will not be a competitive country. The Custo-Brasil exists and if nobody acts to have efficient multimodality, it will not be possible to compete worldwide.

New wagon model was built especially for pulp transport

The project between the multinational Bracell and MRS Logística also involved the creation of a new wagon model suitable for transporting pulp. For this purpose, innovative solutions were presented by the company Greenbrier Maxion, which, in addition to improvements in the opening and closing format, included a reduction in the weight of the wagon, increasing the load capacity per wagon and per train, in addition to providing better ergonomics in transport activities, preventing the loss of cargo due to the entry of water during the rainy season.
