The new electric tractor, from the electronic components factory Foxconn, arrives in the heavy vehicle market costing US$ 50

Foxconn, known for making electronic components for tech giants like Apple and Huawei, decided to expand its business and join the electrification of other sectors. The company began production of electric tractors at its new factory in Lordstown, Ohio, acquired in 2021 for $230 million from Lordstown Motors, according to the website Portal Energia.

Thus, predominantly the use of this electric tractor will be by the agriculture sector, which is increasingly adhering to technological innovations. With the evolution of the electric motor market, manufacturers looked to other sectors to start electrification. Foxconn's new electric tractor model was developed in partnership with the start-up Monarch, and features a 70 kW peak motor, 40 kW continuous, and an autonomy of more than 14 hours of work per load, from according to the manufacturer.

Safety and automation of the new electric tractor

Safety is an important aspect of tractor operation, and the Foxconn Electric Tractor is built with a variety of systems to ensure operator safety. It has a rollover and collision prevention system, PTO safety, people detection and 360º cameras that allow you to operate this tractor even at night. Furthermore, the tractor can be used with or without a driver, with driver assistance systems, as well as the possibility of executing pre-programmed tasks or the gesture and shadow modes for the tractor to follow a worker in his tasks.

Technological innovations also come with a high price. The electric tractor manufactured by Foxconn will cost US$50 million, twice as much as a similar gasoline model. However, the investment can pay off in long-term cost savings and automation of many tasks.

Electrification in agriculture is a trend that has been gaining momentum, and the Foxconn factory is positioning itself well in this market with the production of electric tractors. With advanced safety systems and the possibility of automation, these tractors manufactured recently can bring many benefits to the agricultural sector, even with the higher price.
