Brazilian construction group Odebrecht is doubling down to distance itself from a series of corruption scandals in Brazil and abroad.
Odebrecht Engenharia & Construção will change its name to OEC and replace its red logo with a green, blue and gray one, the website said. The company says it is embarking on a “transformation journey”, replacing its board of directors and adopting a new code of conduct to rid itself of the ghost of Lava Jato Operations.
Last week, the ban on bidding on public contracts in Mexico was extended, and on April 15, former Peruvian President Alan Garcia killed himself as he was being arrested over allegations of accepting bribes from Odebrecht.
Prosecutors in Peru said last week that Odebrecht made multimillion-dollar payments to Peruvian politicians, including a top aide to former President Garcia, who received more than $4 million between 2006 and 2011.
Rodrigo Vilar, in charge of marketing at OEC, told Bloomberg News: “We hope that the new logo and its campaign will serve as strong symbolic evidence that broadens the perception of the transformation process we are going through.”
