Petrobras offshore wind energy pilot project is suspended

The Brazilian state-owned company decided to suspend the pilot project for the generation of offshore wind energy in Campo de Ubarana, located in the Potiguar Basin, on the coast of Rio Grande do Norte. Petrobras' decision was marked by the following announcement in a letter sent to Ibama: "reassessed and suspended, while the company prospects opportunities for synergies and partnerships with the aim of developing a commercial offshore wind generation project in Brazil".

In the pilot project, a tower and a wind turbine would be installed, in addition to other equipment to measure the potential for offshore wind energy generation. The project would be located 20 km from the coast of Grumaré, with an LDA (water depth) of 12 to 16 meters.

A company has opted out of the renewable energy sectors, both in the suspension of the mentioned project, as well as in the part of biofuels. According to the company, the measures are part of maximizing returns for shareholders.
