Crude oil processing at refineries dropped 26% in April, according to the ANP

Recent data released by the National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels show a significant drop in processing at Brazilian refineries

The impacts on the oil and gas sector due to the coronavirus do not stop and the downstream has been proof of this. According to recent data made available by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), oil processing at refineries in Brazil dropped by 26% in April, compared to the previous month.

In all, 40,1 million barrels were processed during the month of April, against 54,3 million in the month of March.

The biggest drop was observed in aviation kerosene production. In the period in question, oil production dropped 82%, totaling just 537 barrels, compared to 2,9 million barrels recorded in the previous month. According to ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency), demand for domestic flights in April fell 93,1% and for international travel 96,1%.

Regarding the production of gasoline, type A for example, there was a drop of 32% (from 10,8 million to 7,4 million in April).
Studies by Rystad show that demand for land vehicle fuels will experience a 10,8% drop in 2020, totaling 5,1 million barrels per day. However, the demand for aviation kerosene will suffer a decrease of almost 34%.

“We expect global commercial air traffic to drop at least 34,4% this year from levels seen in 2019, which we estimate at around 99.700 flights a day,” the consultancy wrote.
